Brenell Dean

PARALEGAL

In 2024, Brenell Dean began her journey as a paralegal with Sway Law. Mrs. Dean has practiced as a paralegal since March 2018 in the areas of Small Claims Court, Criminal Defense, and Landlord Representation. She was the owner of a 9-time award-winning legal practice in Windsor, Ontario from 2018 to 2023. In 2024, Dean joined Sway Law PC to increase access to justice and further broaden her abilities to serve her clients.

Mrs. Dean has a unique background in real estate investing and property management, which has deepened her understanding of the law as it relates to representation at the Landlord and Tenant Board. She also has 16 years of extensive community service experience, being involved with a variety of non-profit organizations including the Southwestern Ontario Black Entrepreneurship Network, Sisters Taking Action for a New Direction, The Downtown Mission, Raising Autism Awareness, Youth Embracing Today’s Youth, the YMCA, and many more.

While maintaining a strong commitment to her community, Mrs. Dean holds a B.A. [H] in French Studies & Psychology from the University and has graduated from a reputable Paralegal Program. She is a highly sought-after public speaker and mentor in the legal profession. Alongside her paralegal practice, Mrs. Dean held the role of Instructor from 2019 until 2023, teaching classes such as Criminal Law, Administrative Law, Civil Litigation, and Landlord and Tenant, among others. Mrs. Dean comes from a family with a rich history in the legal field as a direct relative of Delos Davis, one of Canada’s first black lawyers, the Honorable Justice Dean, and others spanning across Canada and the United States.

Mrs. Dean’s education and volunteer experience have equipped her with the necessary skills to represent clients in the legal field with utmost organization and professionalism. As a member of the Law Society of Ontario, Mrs. Dean vows to uphold her business ethically and raise every issue fearlessly to the benefit of her clients.

About Terry-Joe Downer

LAWYER

Terry-Joe has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. She received her Legal Education Certificate from Norman Manley Law School and was called to the bar in Jamaica in 2019. Prior to her relocation to Canada, Terry-Joe mainly practiced estate administration and family law in Jamaica. She was called to the bar in Ontario in 2024. 


Terry-Joe is an Associate at the firm, dedicated to providing outstanding legal services and achieving exceptional outcomes for our clients. Her collaborative style and creative problem-solving abilities guarantee that clients receive individualized attention and strategic advice designed specifically for their needs. 


Terry-Joe believes that by pursuing a career in law, an opportunity is created to assist others in a meaningful and impactful way by utilizing her legal knowledge and expertise.
